France has many conspicuous tourist attractions famous worldwide. The most famous tourist attraction in the country is the Eiffel tours. What if you want to go for a holiday during the winter? Many places can turn out to be a viable option making it hard to select a destination for winter. But we feel that one of the areas that you cannot miss is Avoriaz. It’s not in the league of the Eiffel tower, but this should not deceive you into thinking that it’s a place that has nothing of importance.  Quite the opposite, though, you are more likely to have a wonderful town in this place.

Avoriaz

Avoriaz is a skiing resort located in the Porte’s du Soleil (the world’s largest linked ski area with over 650 kilometers of pistes). It’s a purpose-built ski area nestled in a sloping plateau, an altitude of about 1800 meters above sea level. It’s quite a fascinating town characterized by a large number of the wooded apartment building. The architecture used in the construction has been made so that they blend with the surrounding area. At first glance, it’s easy to confuse the house with rocks. But what is more striking is that they are made from wood.

Skiing in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is a full skiing area that welcomes both the experts and the inexperienced skiers. Piste Premier Glisten is another place that beginners can start from and develop with time. For intermediate and advanced skiers, Moussette’s pistes can offer the best and the most challenging runs. For advanced skiers, we will give you the challenge that you desire, endowed with over 20 black and red pistes; you are likely to have the moment of your life.

Why should you go for skiing in Avoriaz?

A pedestrian town: Something that makes this town so different from the other skiing regions you have visited is car-free nature. Horses with buggies are the method that is widely used for transportation. What is appealing about this is that children are free from the danger of being hit by a car. They can stroll randomly around the streets and have fun. At the same time, parents are assured of their safety.  People who go there have to leave their cars parked outside town. The pedestrian nature of the Resort makes it more appealing and charming by offering something unique.

Location within Porte’s du Soliel: As said before, Avoriaz is located in the Portes du Soleil besides being one of the largest skiing areas, it is the oldest cross-border ski area, which means that you have access to a wide variety of pistes and you have the chance to taste different cultures. The Portes du Soliel connects both France and Switzerland. It’s easy to head over to Switzerland or go more in-depth into France. A single week tour in this area is not enough. You will need more time here.

High altitude: The Avoriaz altitude is desirable. Situated at the height of around 2000 meters above sea level, you are guaranteed of the place having snow throughout the year. Again let’s not forget that at the peaks of this region, you get a stunning panoramic view.

A lively nightlife: If you are keen on après ski, which is an event typically organized in the evenings, you are at the place that won’t disappoint. Enjoy partying, listening to music, and local drinks. You can party up to late at night.

Other things to do in Avoriaz

If skiing has never appealed to you, then there are other enjoyable things you can do in Avoriaz that are not related to snow sports. Some of these things include:

Taking a horse and cart ride: It might not come as a surprise to you that horses and cats are used here. They are the ordinary means of transport here. You must board them for an authentic alpine experience as soon as you have settled looking for something enjoyable to do. Though if you want a scenic view of the Surrounding, the cost of taking a horse and cart ride could be higher.

Ice Skating: This is a perfect way to spend one hour or two in the evening. Head over to the ice skating rinks and enjoy ice skating. It’s reasonably priced and at the same time enjoyable.

Snowshoeing: This is a beautiful activity while working on your appetite. Ensure that you carry a camera with you as you might be lucky to stumble upon some wildlife or something intriguing. In Avoriaz, several companies organize snowshoeing in the town. Perhaps, you could link up with them and enjoy snowshoeing with a company.

When is the best time to visit?

Assuming that you are skiing enthusiasts, then the most appropriate time to visit the Resort should be during the winter when there is a lot so snow again. Therefore, the best time for your commences from December and end in April.

Christmas and the New Year is always a better time to visit this area.  You will have a taste of some of the best delicacies and participate in events that usher in the New Year.

If you are an Après-Ski and music lover, the best time for you should be around April, where there are so many festivals held, including the excellent Jazz Festival.
