The Piedmont region offers it all - from romantic hills to stunning vineyards and historic castles. Known as the 'Burgundy of Italy', this region is rich and popular for its variety of red wines that are certified for their excellence. Our exclusive Piedmont tour starts in Turin with your arrival, and a full day private guided tour next day, taking you to the historic places like Superga, the Royal Palace and the iconic Duomo in Turin.

The medieval experience then continues in Asti and Monferrato, cities close to Turin that date back to ancient times, with preserved squares, old towers and churches. The Baroque ambiance combined with the best foods an wine continues in Langhe where you will get to taste the best truffles in local restaurants and share your experiences with passionate food enthusiasts.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Turin Arrival | Welcome to Italy! Upon arrival at Turin airport please proceed to collect your luggage inside the customs area. Meet your driver and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Turin.

Day 02: Turin Full Day Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet you driver and guide in the Hotel lobby for a Full day Turin Private Guided Tour with the following visits: Valentino Park and medieval Centre (it is a reproduction of a typical medieval village surrounded by fortified walls and a rock), Basilica of Superga (an impressive church built on the Superga hill, an ideal view point to admire all the beauty of the city and a renowned pilgrimage destination), the Royal Palace (a majestic building of XVII century, former residence of the kings of Italy that preserves the marks left by the many famous architects and artists who worked in Turin), Turin's Duomo (this cathedral is the only example of Renaissance architecture in town). Overnight in Turin.

Day 03: Turin - Asti-Monferrato | Breakfast at the Hotel. Depart with your private driver to Monferrato area. On the way you will stop in Asti where together with your local guide you will discover medieval towers, churches, baroque buildings and old squares during your walking tour. Visit also the collegiate Church of San Secondo and the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria; have a walk along Corso Alfieri, the main street, where you may also stop and visit the Crypt of Sant'Anastasio (collection of some Roman ruins, a VIII-X century graveyard area, Romanesque capitols, etc.). After the Tour continue to your Hotel Relays del Santo Uffizio, This ancient house in the heart of Monferrato, is surrounded by vineyards and pretty red brick villages, tucked away in the green hills all around. Overnight at the Relays in Asti Monferrato.

Day 04: Monferrato Private Tour with Guided Tour of Casale Monferrato | After breakfast at the Hotel meet in the lobby with your Driver/Guide. Today you will visit Casale Monferrato area. This land of rolling hills covered with vineyards and dotted with castles is a region happily unexplored by conventional tourists. Your route today will take you through small villages crowned with ancient castles. Travel through the villages of Moncalvo, Grazzano Badoglio, Ottiglio, Sala Monferrato and Stevani to reach the 13th century Castello di Uviglie. Here tour the Castle grounds and The Wine Estate for a fantastic Lunch/Food and Wine Tasting. In the afternoon meet your Professional Local Guide for a Private Guided Tour of Casale Monferrato historic center. With the Cathedral of Sant' Evasio and the Synagogue, built in Baroque style in the sixteenth century and restored in 1969. The Cathedral is the oldest monument of Casale Monferrato, and is one of the largest cathedrals in the Lombard Romanesque style of Piedmont. Among other beautiful churches of Casale stand one dedicated to St. Dominic, founded in 1472, and the 18th century Church of Santa Caterina. Late afternoon return to your Relays in Asti Monferrato.

Day 05: Day at Leisure or *Optional Tour | Asti & Nizza Monferrato Full Day Private Guided Tour: Meet your Driver and Guide at the Hotel lobby. Guided tour of Asti’s old town where together with your local guide you will discover medieval towers, churches, baroque buildings and old squares during your walking tour. Visit also the collegiate Church of San Secondo and the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria; have a walk along Corso Alfieri, the main street, where you may also stop and visit the Crypt of Sant'Anastasio (collection of some Roman ruins, a VIII-X century graveyard area, Romanesque capitels, etc.). Lunch in a typical-style restaurant in the city centre, wines included. In the afternoon, together with your Guide visit Mombaruzzo is just one of the so-called "area Nizza" districts, a vast hillside swathe of territory with many localities devoted to wine production in the orbit of the main town, Nizza Monferrato, which can be found about ten kilometres away. Nizza is a lively town and a great commercial centre for wine whose name has become synonymous with great Barbera. It is also interesting for its historic monuments. See the remains of Mediaeval palazzi in the historic centre, including the merlon-crenellated tower of the town hall and some aristocratic residences. Late afternoon you will return your Hotel. Overnight at the Relays in Asti Monferrato.

Day 06: Monferrato - Langhe Transfer with Truffle Fair visit | After breakfast meet with your driver at the lobby. This morning on route to your Hotel in the Langhe, stop along the way at leisure. The drive is only about 1 hour; you could comfortably stop at leisure along the way for you to arrive in Alba just around 1:00 pm. Lunch based on Truffle in a characteristic local restaurant. In the afternoon you will visit the world-renowned International Truffle Fair, which combines top chefs from across the globe with passionate food enthusiasts. Late afternoon transfer to your Hotel in Langhe.

Day 07: Day at leisure or *Optional Tour: Langhe Full Day Private Tour with White Truffle Hunt | Breakfast at the hotel. Meet your Driver in the lobby. This morning your first visit Cherasco, a quadrilateral planned town with a very interesting historic Centre. Take a stroll along the orthogonal streets opened with porticos and embellished by civic and religious buildings that go from the Medieval to the Baroque. After a 2 hours visit continue on to Serralunga to visit the slender and majestic Castle of Serralunga d'Alba. The Castle overshadows one of the most beautiful and historically intact villages of the Langhe, surrounded by the hills of Barolo vineyards. Considered to be one of the best-conserved examples of 14th century noble castles in Piedmont, this castle represents a unique piece of history in Italy with an architectural structure of a French donjon. Lunch in a characteristic local restaurant. In the afternoon, you will learn all about one of this region's most famous specialties, the truffle. After this short introduction, you will venture into the woods with the trifolau (truffle hunter) and his dog, to put your newfound knowledge to the test and find your own little nugget of white gold! Next you will visit a local farm and taste some of their products, which include cheeses and succulent salamis, paired with good local wine. Late afternoon transfer to your Hotel in Langhe.

Day 08: Langhe Full day Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your Driver and Professional local Guide in the lobby. Your day in the Langhe starts with a wonderful visit to The Castle of Grinzane Cavour. The Castle became a symbol of the Langhe del Barolo after Count Benso, the mayor of the town for some 17 years running, transformed it into a production base for the great wines of Langhe. Today, Grinzane Cavour is home to an important wine museum and an ethnographic museum which illustrates the local farming traditions. Then continue to Barolo village with its imposing Castle. The Barolo Castle has a centuries-long history and an international museum dedicated to the world of wine. There is perhaps no better place to have a Wine Museum - than in the land where Barolo is made. Lunch in a local characteristic restaurant. In the afternoon visit The Marchesi di Barolo wine cellar, with wine tasting. Marchesi di Barolo was and is a winery that has received numerous awards for its wines and has been frequently recognized in the press and media. We will end the visit of this beautiful area by visiting the village of La Morra, with its enchanting panoramic view on the 11 villages producing Barolo wine. Return to your Hotel in Langhe, rest of the evening at leisure. Overnight in Langhe.

Day 09: Langhe at Leisure or *Optional Tour: Cuneo and Saluzzo Full Day Private Guided Tour: Meet your Driver and Guide at the Hotel lobby. This morning travel to Cuneo, a destination often overlooked by travelers. It's an honor to offer you a visit to this city because in recent years has been the subject of restoration work that made it very nice indeed. The spacious and elegant Piazza Galimberti shows the Maritime Alps. You will explore the little medieval streets and the most beautiful churches of the city: San Francesco dating back to the late Middle Ages; San Sebastiano a beautiful example of the Baroque style. Both are part of museums. Walking through the city, we will show you where Ernest Hemingway was tasting the local sweets; where is the historic Borsalino hat shop and where you can enjoy a tea with typical pastries or a Piedmontese vermouth. If you wish, you can also eat in the restaurant that singers Sting or Bono, the leader of U2, prefer. After lunch, you will travel to Saluzzo, the capital of a region known as the Marquisate of Saluzzo for five centuries. Hated enemies of the Savoy family, the Marquesses of Saluzzo were knights, patrons and writers. Their presence in the city has left many traces. Walking through the streets and along the picturesque stairways, you live late Gothic atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere.We will take you to discover the oldest part of the village, closed around the castle. We will go down along the city through major urban areas as the Salita al Castello, discover the old churches of San Giovanni and the Cathedral of Santa Maria, palaces and small squares, short and dark arcades and new busiest pedestrian areas. We will not forget to talk to the writers Boccaccio and Petrarch nor the Marquis Thomas III and Silvio Pellico. Late afternoon you will return your Hotel.

Day 10: Langhe - Turin Airport | After breakfast at the hotel enjoy a Private Transfer from Langhe to Turin Airport.

  • We have just returned from our trip to Italy since we took a cruise after the program you and I put together. I just wanted to let you know that everything you planned worked out perfectly. Both hotels were excellent and the rooms were fine. All the drivers were on time and got us to our destinations promptly. We were especially glad to have someone meet us at the train station with the tickets in hand and directions to our car in Milan. The best part of the trip was the all day private boat trip in Bellagio with the great restaurant on the private island. So thanks for your help and hopefully we can do it again.
