The Molise and Abruzzo Gourmet Tour offers you a great chance to not only taste the amazing local dishes, Salami and Olive Oil production processes - it also shows you the importance of the quick and healthy homemade meals the people from Abruzzo and Molise are known for.
As soon as your driver picks you up from the airport in Rome, the old-town spirit will kick in as you travel across the Abruzzo region and the Molise countryside, learning how fun and delicious making pasta can be. The tour then continues with Vasto, Lanciano and the 'fishing house' in Trabocco where you will see how donkey and goat milk are made and processed.
The end of this tour puts an accent to the love of liqueurs and desserts, where you get to be a sommelier and learn how to preserve fruits and vegetables in the Italian way.
Day 01: Rome Arrival - Chieti Countryside | Welcome to Italy. Upon arrival at Rome airport please proceed through the Passport Control and collect your luggage inside the customs area. Meet your driver and transfer to Chieti Countryside. Rest of the Day at Leisure. Overnight in Chieti.
Day 02: Carunchio old-town | Breakfast at the hotel. Today you'll explore the basic ingredients of traditional Abruzzo cuisine and make some flavorful sauces for pasta dishes. The theme for this lunch will be Old-Town, Quick and Healthy Abruzzese Dishes, Local Salame Maker's and Olive Oil Press. After a short morning walk be "quick and healthy homemade meals." You'll see how delicious, easy, and healthy Abruzzese cooking can be. You'll lunch on your tasty creations in traditional Italian style, slowly and in good company! After lunch, you'll rest up for the afternoon activities. Then, a visit to a local salami production plant and learn how this incredible product is made, and what distinguishes Abruzzo's salami from the rest. Next, a visit to an organic olive oil press, where the owner of the farm will show you the traditional ways of making the "real extra virgin olive oil." Overnight in Chieti Countryside.
Day 03: Homemade Pasta Extravaganza, Agnone, Cheese Plant, Bell Foundry | Breakfast at the Hotel. Today travel across the Molise Countryside to learn how much fun and delicious making pasta can be, in a variety of colors and shapes. You'll learn all the tricks so it turns out great every time. You will be amazed by the variety: pasta alla chitarra, gnocchi, cavatelli, stuffed pasta and so on. After lunch, down to Agnone, in the region of Molise, where you can watch real family production of mozzarella, burrata and caciocavallo. Agnone is famous in the area for its quality cheese. Then you will visit a historic artisan bell foundry which still makes church bells manually for the Vatican. We will learn about the manufacturing phases. Late afternoon return to your Hotel in Chieti Countryside.
Day 04: Vasto, Lanciano, Trabocco "fishing house," Shopping | Breakfast at the Hotel. "The day starts with a visit to the curious trabocch1 fishing houses, a unique piece of art that is available only on this small strip of the Adriatic. Next you will explore an organic soap manufactory that has improved an old recipe to make soap with olive oil, goat's milk and donkey milk. Lunch at the best restaurant in town, serving a seafood sampling feast. After lunch you'll have the opportunity to do some window shopping in Vasto. Late afternoon return to your Hotel in Chieti Countryside.
Day 05: Learn the Art of Preservation and Liqueurs | Breakfast at the Hotel. Learn how to preserve fruits and vegetables in the Italian way. Make fruit preserves and a variety of pickled vegetables, plus learn how to preserve using oil and vinegar. Taste and find out how these ingredients are a big part of the Abruzzese cuisine. Later, you'll learn how to make Limoncello and you'll taste a variety of liqueurs created from local ingredients, such as amaro Abruzzese and Centerba. In the afternoon you'll be free to walk around town and enjoy the peaceful environment in the small village of Carunchio. Late afternoon return to your Hotel in Chieti Countryside.
Day 06: Desserts, Be a Sommelier | Breakfast at the Hotel. Learn how to make mouth watering desserts and pair them with the liqueurs made the previous day. Almond biscotti, bocconotto, and much more. After lunch, you'll enjoy a sommelier class. In just three hours, you'll learn the basic skills on how to sample and pair wines. Late afternoon return to your Hotel in Chieti Countryside.
Day 07: Chieti Countryside - Rome Departure | Breakfast at the Hotel. Arrivederci. Ciao! Enjoy a Private Transfer to Rome Airport.
