This tour will let you sharpen your senses for delicious wine and foods. Starting with your arrival in Polignano, followed by the best accomodation in Trani, Bari and Castel de Monte, you will breath the fresh air at the iconic Polignano a Mare, see the nice wine farms at Alberobello and attend day cooking classes in Lecce.
Day 01: Bari Arrival - Polignano| Welcome to Italy! Upon arrival at Bari airport please proceed through the Passport Control and collect your luggage inside the customs area. Meet your driver and transfer to Polignano a Mare. Rest of the Day at Leisure. Overnight in Polignano a Mare.
Day 02: Trani, Bari and Castel del Monte | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver at the lobby for a full day excursion to Trani, Bari and Castel del Monte. Castel del Monte is a 13th century octagonal castle built by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, it's a spectacular building overlooking the Apulian countryside. Lunch at a characteristic Pugliese Restaurant. In Bari we will visit the Basilica of San Nicola, housing the remains of the patron saint, the Romanesque basilica of San Gregorio, the Cathedral of San Sabino and Bari's Norman-Swabian Castle. In Trani we will visit the Basilica, one of the finest buildings in the local Romanesque style, it's made of limestone which gives it a blond glaze and a charming shine. The Cathedral is just one of many imposing buildings lining the port where the fisherman keep their colourful boats. Late afternoon return to your hotel. Overnight in Polignano.
Day 03: Polignano a Mare | Breakfast at the Hotel. Today experience a hands-on cooking lesson at Polignano most exclusive restaurant; you'll learn to prepare a classic Pugliese pasta called orecchiette and a traditional pasta sauce. A Four-course Pugliese lunch will follow in the restaurant's private grotto; we'll even taste baby octopus cooked in a spicy tomato sauce, a local specialty. Optional shopping excursion to purchase cheeses, cured meats, regional pastas, and more; the shop-keeper will offer you a complimentary sampling of local delicacies and vacuum-pack your purchases for safe travel. Overnight in Polignano.
Day 04: Ostuni - Alberobello - Wine Farm | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver at the lobby for a private guided excursion of Ostuni and Alberobello. Ostuni, this city of art, is certainly one of the most beautiful cities of Apulia. Is situated on the latest Murge (the hills of Apulia), the white color of the houses that form the historical center is due to lime, which for centuries has been used for painting the walls of the village. White City is another name for Ostuni. Lunch at a characteristic Restaurant. Alberobello, its characteristic center includes the Monti district, comprising 1030 trulli on a hillside; it has some of the oldest buildings still preserving the original features of construction. The trulli are white dry-stone houses with conical roofs made of lapidary stones. On the road back to Otranto we will stop for a visit of an historic wine farm in Cellino San Marco. This wine tour is a short journey through every step of the wine making process: the vineyards, the cellars, up to the packaging point, you will taste Negramaro, Salice Salentino and Primonero Salento. Late afternoon return to your hotel. Overnight in Polignano.
Day 05: Polignano - Martina Franca - Lecce | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver at the lobby for a private transfer to your Hotel in Lecce. On route enjoy a visit to Martina Franca. Lunch at a characteristic Pugliese Restaurant. The centre of Martina Franca is charming, and worth roaming around for an hour or two, with cameras at the ready. The oldest part of town is called the Lama, where you can still see the pointed-roof buildings which are a local tradition. Wandering the lanes and alleys you pass eighteenth-century palaces, some of which are shabby with age, as well as humbler dwellings. Overnight in Lecce.
Day 06: Lecce Cooking Day Class | Breakfast at the Hotel. Today enjoy a hands on cooking class in Lecce Historic Centre. The day starts at the local food market, then to the school, to make fresh pasta (twice, once for each meal), make lunch, have lunch, take a few hour break and then reconvene for dinner, sitting down around 8 and finishing around 11 pm. Expect to spend around 3 hours in the kitchen, 5 at the table and a few more split between time in the market and walking the Baroque beauty of Lecce or the castle grounds. Overnight in Lecce.
Day 07: Otranto, Cheese Factory, Specchia and Wine Estate | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver at the lobby for a private guided excursion to Otranto and Specchia touring the most wonderful places of the Salento Coast. Otranto, also called "The Door to the Orient", the most eastern point of Italy. Otranto offers its visitors the Cathedral that was finished and opened to prayer in 1088. It is considered the biggest church in Puglia. Otranto is also home to the Aragonese castle with its towers, bastions and fortified walls. Then we will visit a cheese factory and winery. The location of this farm is enchanting: an ancient tower overlooking the sea. Here we will enjoy a demonstration of mozzarella, ricotta and cheese making, followed by a cheese tasting, visit to the wine estate and wine-tasting. Light lunch in the farm where we will taste local products such as ham, salami, capocollo, local cheeses, "friselle" with tomato. In the afternoon you will visit Specchia. You will be stupefied by the enchanting Baroque Palaces of that small perfectly preserved village. Then and we will visit a wine farm producing typical Apulia award winning wines such as Metiusco, Albarossa, white Salento IGT, wine tasting. Late afternoon return to your hotel in Lecce.
Day 08: Lecce - Bari Airport | Breakfast at the Hotel. Arrivederci. Ciao! Enjoy a Private Transfer to Bari Airport.
