As soon as you land in Naples, you will be introduced to the spirit of South Italy and escorted to your hotel. This tour begins on day 2 where you get to see the volcanic town and archaeological sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius from up close.
Seeing the first century AD cities where the Roman Empire reigned is the most delicate part of this tour. Just like Herculaneum known for the legendary Hercules and Pompeii for the amazing battles with gladiators, you will be able to walk the same ground on which Roman kings used to walk and see the elite Roman resorts like the Suburban Baths, the House of the Deers, many temples, houses and churches. From the medieval towns near Naples, the tour continues in the luxurious and chic Amalfi Coast which is a mix of culture and modern tourism. Travel along the Gulf of Salerno to reach Paestum Archeological Park. The Greek temples of Paestum are some of the most stunning ancient monuments in Italy. Still standing after 2500 years, they embody the Greek ideals of beauty, rationality, and the sacred. This day trip takes you along the Amalfi Coast and the Bay of Salerno to the low, often flower-filled plain looking out to the sea where the three temples stand. You will have time to explore the vast site consisting also of a Roman town with forum constructed on top of the original Greek settlement.
Day 01: Arrive in Naples | Welcome to Italy! On your arrival at Naples Airport, after you clear Immigration, you will pick up your luggage from the appropriate carousel and then proceed to Customs. Just outside the Exit of the protected area meet your English-Speaking Assistant. Porterage arrangements have been made for 2 pieces of luggage per passenger. You will be transferred to your hotel in Naples. The balance of this first day is at leisure. For International arrivals, we suggest an early dinner and a good night sleep. Overnight in Naples.
Day 02: Naples Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver and guide at the hotel lobby. Today enjoy a full day Private Guided Tour of Naples. Your city tour begins with Castel Nuovo, the political center of the city during the Antiquity period, through to the high medieval period (when Petrarch and Boccaccio were guests). You will then continue to the Castle dell’Ovo (The Egg Castle), which has a history dating back to the Roman times and was even a prison under the Normans. With a view of the bay of Naples as a backdrop, your tour continues to Piazza Plebiscito; the most monumental and harmonious square in the city, to view the vast 17th-century Royal Palace, San Carlo Opera House and the Church of St. Francis. You will then continue through Piazza della Borsa to Corso Umberto and the Galleria Umberto I, lined with beautiful lamps and 19th-century buildings containing some of the most elegant shops and cafes in Naples. After lunch in an authentic Neapolitan Pizzeria together with your Private Guide you will visit the Naples National Archaeological Museum, one of Naples' treasure troves. The museum contains a large collection of Roman artifacts from Pompeii, Stabiae and Herculaneum. The collection includes works of the highest quality produced in Greek, Roman and Renaissance times. It is considered one of the most important Archaeological Museum in the world. After your Museum tour you will ride up to Posillipo Hill where you'll have time for photographs and an excellent panoramic view of the city. Coming down from Posillipo, with the beautiful Bay of Naples on to your right side, you will pass first by Mergellina and then by the famous Santa Lucia district. Willing, you will have time to stop for an authentic Espresso and Sfogliatella Pastry before returning to your Hotel. Overnight in Naples.
Day 03: Naples → Pompeii & Mout Vesuvius Private Guided Tour → Sorrento | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your Driver at the Hotel lobby. This morning you will be privately transferred to your Hotel in Sorrento. On Route stop in Pompeii where you will meet your Private Guide. Pompeii, buried under lava and ash from Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and lay forgotten for hundreds of years. Enjoy a walking tour of Pompeii that will include: visits to the interiors of the homes of Pompeii's wealthier citizens, Ancient streets where locals dined and where you'll learn about traditional Roman cuisine, the amphitheatre where we'll talk of the Gladiators and the events staged in the arena. As well as enjoying numerous anecdotes about life in Pompeii that will include some of the Graffiti dating back to Roman times that are still visible throughout the ruins. Continue with a visit to the Ancient Forum, Pompeii's centre for religious, civil and economic life where we'll walk through the ancient Macellum which was a covered food market that occupied a corner of the forum. Of the three different areas, the central section was intended for use by the imperial house, those to the sides for the sale of meat, whilst an area in the middle was for the cleaning and sale of fish. Lunch at the most important winemaker of Lachrima Christi, located just few hundred meters below the peak of the Volcano Vesuvius. Here you will have a classical Italian lunch that includes bruschette with fresh tomatoes and olive oil served with salami and cheeses. Then, spaghetti will be served with little hill cherry tomatoes, accompanied by two different red wines. After lunch, the tour continues to Mount Vesuvio for a visit of the site. The view from the top is breathtaking, in fact the mount dominates the Bay of Naples with its characteristic cone. From the top you can observe the whole extent of the southern part of the volcano and, during days with good visibility, it is possible to see the entire gulf of Naples. The guide will lead you through the "Fumarole" zone, the old Funicolare which inspired the famous song "Funiculì, Funiculà" and the place where is located "La Capannina". In the late afternoon, continue to your Hotel in Sorrento. Overnight in Sorrento.
Day 04: Sorrento Villages Tour and Terranova Farm Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your Driver and Guide at the Hotel Lobby. Your private tour today will start with a visit to an extra virgin olive oil farm. Enjoy a demonstration on the production of Olive Oil from the olive on the tree to the bottle. Followed by a delicious tasting of this fine Extra Virgin Olive Oil on freshly baked bread. On your way to the next stop, the mozzarella and cheese makers, we stop for a fantastic photo opportunity over the two bays’, the bay of Salerno and the bay of Naples, for a bird's eye view of the famous Amalfi Drive. You will be welcomed with open arms by the family at the cheese farm, who have over 50 years of experience. After touring the farm, watch the making of mozzarella (a cheese that originated from the Naples area), participate in a wonderful explanation of the entire process up to the final product, which you will taste with lunch. Sit back and relax with antipasto of local 'in season' vegetables, salami then followed by freshly made pasta. Tasting the fresh mozzarella you have just witnessed being made. Lunch is served with local wine and soft drinks, followed by Limoncello. Then continue to Sorrento to meet your Private Guide. Visit Sorrento Historic Centre where you will have a Wine tasting at a local Enoteca, with full demonstration, visit to the cellar and wine tasting. The tour ends in the heart of Sorrento for Italy's famous GELATO. Return to the Hotel. Overnight in Sorrento.
Day 05: Capri Island Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver and guide at the lobby to be transferred to Sorrento Pier where you will Fast-Ferry across the Bay to reach Capri Island. From the port of Capri, travel by private minivan to arrive at the town of Anacapri, which is a delight to explore. Anacapri is a concentration of Mediterranean colors, scents, and sounds. Town life here has remained authentic despite the island's tourism: tucked between the houses there are tiny, humble vegetable gardens surrounded by lush tropical plants. A walk around the center of Anacapri will take you past tiny Neapolitan tailor shops, artisan shoemakers, ladies sitting in the shade outside working on their knitting while exchanging gossip and news...all with the scent of the town's lemon groves that permeates the air. Here you will visit Villa San Michele and the Axel Munthe Gardens. After returning to the town of Capri for lunch in a characteristic local restaurant, spend the afternoon exploring this enchanting part of the island. The best way to discover the island is walking and breathing the special atmosphere along the tiny pedestrian alleys. The famous Piazzetta, with its prestigious cafes' and surrounded by whitewashed buildings, the beautiful Augustus Gardens with its enchanting views, the narrow winding streets with delightful small shops. The Augustus Gardens are next. In the 1900s this botanical estate was the vacation home of steel magnate Friedrich Alfred Krupp. Explore the unique flora of Capri in this island garden. It is from here that we will look down upon the renowned Faraglioni limestone sea stacks. These imposing rock formations are one of Capri’s best-known landmarks. At one point during the day, you will visit the world famous Blue Grotto. If you would like to enjoy some more walking, our guide will take you on a hike along the secluded paths lined with stone walls and citrus groves. Included is a visit to a Limoncello shop, Capri's favorite lemon 'digestivo'. Late afternoon, return to Sorrento pier to be transferred to your Hotel. Overnight in Sorrento.
Day 06: Punta Campanella Marine Park Private Boat Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Today we will make you appreciate the pleasure of cruising along the Sorrento Coast. Day 07: Sorrento to Amalfi Coast Private Transfer | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver and guide at the lobby and transfer to your Hotel in Positano. Today leave the Sorrento Peninsula behind and enjoy a drive along one of the most intriguing coastline in the world, The Amalfi Coast. Passing through Santa Agata dei due Golfi, and few other villages, you will reach Positano where you will spend the next 4 nights. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Positano is the coast’s most picturesque and photogenic town; with steeply-stacked houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta colors. No less colorful are its steep streets and steps lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable boutiques. Overnight on the Amalfi Coast.
Day 08: Amalfi Coast Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet you driver and Guide at the hotel lobby. Today travel along one of the most intriguing coastlines in the world, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello. The Amalfi coast is for sure one of the most striking sceneries existing in southern Italy, and apart from the stunning views one can enjoy all along the drive, it is the road itself to be a real challenge to the steep rocky cliffs overlooking the magnificent emerald colours of the Tyrrhenian sea. For centuries, the little villages have stayed quiet and almost immersed in a dreamlike atmosphere. You will first visit Positano. When you walk through the historical centre you are overwhelmed by the amount of shops selling any sort of stuff, the lemon liqueurs, the candles, the pictures and everywhere, even hanging over balconies the most incredible colours of linen clothes locally called “Moda Positano”. As you walk to the bottom of the village, free of traffic, you get to the local church still further down to the local beach. After Positano dreamful experience continue your journey by visiting Furore. The old village lies on the foothills of the Monti Lattari. The landscape has a rugged Dolomites beauty. Here you will visit Marisa Cuomo Winery in Furore for a property and a Wine Tasting Tour. The Winery is situated on the steep slopes that stretch out in the sun and rocks and plunge into the crystal-clear water of the Amalfi Coast. Among enchanting bays and coves, the vineyards of Cantine Marisa Cuomo dominate the “Fiordo di Furore” fjord overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. Visit the estate’s cellars and vineyards, sample the unique flavour of its extreme wines and taste the gastronomic specialities of Furore. You will enjoy lunch in a scenic restaurant set next door just off the property. In the afternoon continue to the beautiful town of Amalfi. Historically the most important town of the area, Amalfi was one of the 4 Maritime Republic, and it has some of the oldest paper factories Italy; motherland of the inventor of the sea compass, etc. What is left of that glorious past is for sure the most important monument in town, the Duomo, with and impressive façade decorated with gorgeous mosaics at the top and a Moorish lower. Continue to the top of the mountains to Ravello, situated at 1100 feet above the sea level, the views of the coast below are for sure the most breath-taking scenery. The town of Ravello is for sure the best place where to leave the crowds and where to enjoy the quiet of a village, where most of the historical centre is still untamed, and still recalling the magnificence of the grand private residences. Day 09: Vietri Sul Mare Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver at the Hotel lobby. This morning we have arranged for Mr. and Mrs. Metcalfe to visit Vietri sul Mare, a fascinating town, gate door of the Amalfi Coast. With a wonderful panorama on the Salerno Bay and the Amalfi Coast. Stroll along the colorful houses and narrow streets of Vietri sul Mare, built in relation to the Arab defensive strategies. History and traditions, art and traditional crafts of the Amalfi Coast, the picturesque village will impress you with its charm and curiosity! Renown all over the World, the colorful Ceramica of Vietri is a tradition dating back to the 15th century. Today, ceramics are the symbol of the city, both big and small works of art appreciated throughout the world. Already in the 1600s, ceramic shops of Vietri sul Mare were much appreciated to produce floorings, but it is between the XIX and XX centuries. Famous for their quality and vivid colors, the local ceramics make for a perfect souvenir for yourself or a gift for someone at home. The town feels like an open-air showroom, with walls along the main streets lined with beautiful tableware, ceramics of all kinds, and shelves burgeoning with variously shaped bowls and vases. After an initial pass-through, you'll begin to see stylistic differences and be able to spot individual artists, each characterized by a proprietary pattern and color palette. Palazzo della Ceramica Solimene was opened in the 40s. The magnificent building by the architect Paolo Soleri recalls in its structure, the Guggenheim Museum in New York: an imposing structure with towers leaning against the mountains, with interior spaces dominated by exposed beams. Lunch will be scheduled in a characteristic local Restaurant. Early afternoon, return to your Hotel. Overnight on the Amalfi Coast.
