The Bay--so called because it was a favorite of writers like Shelley, Byron, Petrarca and Montale--also includes the picturesque villages of Lerici, Sarzana, Tellaro, San Terenzo, Montemarcello, the city of La Spezia, and the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. Late afternoon continue to your Castle Hotel in Lunigiana.

Day 07: Lunigiana Castles & Borgos |After breakfast at the hotel, meet your driver in the lobby. Your Private Guided Lunigiana tour starts at one of the most fascinating of all the castles in Lunigiana, Fosdinovo castle. It is strategically placed halfway between the peaks of the Apuan Alps and the Versilia Coast. Today, the descendants of the ancient feudal Malaspina family still live in the castle. Their origin can be retraced as far back as the IXth century, when Boniface I arrived in Italy in 813 as a follower of Charlemagne. The king granted Tuscany to Boniface, from where he managed to expand his influence as far as Liguria and Corsica. The Malaspinas built Fosdinovo Castle in the Middle Ages and their fortunes are interwoven with its history. Inside the Castle, the frescoed walls and furnished halls reflect what life was like during those times. From Fosdinovo, we head towards northern Lunigiana. After lunch in a characteristic Lunigiana restaurant, you continue to Pontremoli, the door of Tuscany. It is a typical medieval town on the Via Francigena, full of history and traditions. Crossing the Cresa bridge, you enter the walled town and head for Piagnaro Castle, the magnificent fortress that dominates the town. In the castle, you visit a small but extraordinary museum, the Stele Statue Museum. The stele statues are prehistoric, anthropomorphic sculptures dating from between the first and fourth millennia BC. Late afternoon transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Lunigiana.

Day 08: Pisa Departure | After breakfast at the hotel enjoy a Private Transfer from Lunigiana to Pisa Airport.

  • Thank you for coordinating such a wonderful trip in Italy. Terence and I learned many things about Italy. The weather was great and we had so much fun. All hotels, staff and guides were superb! We especially appreciated our driver who served us from Venice through our time in Florence, I believe his name was Lorenzo. Again, thank “you” for doing such a great job in planning our vacation.

  • Hope, you are doing well. My wife and I had a great trip to Italy. The place, the people, and the food and wine were out of this world. Warm and kind people including hotel staff, tour guides and drivers went beyond their ways to help us and make this visit very special for us. It was very hard to leave Italy. You, your staff and company did an extraordinary job. You over delivered. Bravo!

  • We have just returned from our trip to Italy since we took a cruise after the program you and I put together. I just wanted to let you know that everything you planned worked out perfectly. Both hotels were excellent and the rooms were fine. All the drivers were on time and got us to our destinations promptly. We were especially glad to have someone meet us at the train station with the tickets in hand and directions to our car in Milan. The best part of the trip was the all day private boat trip in Bellagio with the great restaurant on the private island. So thanks for your help and hopefully we can do it again.
