However, what is special about Como is the untouched nature and cozy small villages surrounding it. This tour gives you a glimpse of all the beauty, charm and tradition of the place. Here, we will treat you to the best Italian artisan cheese and a unique wine tasting process in Arona. Lake Lugano and Lucerne are the final points of the tour which are influenced by the Swiss and are quite distinct in their architecture and style.
Day 01: Milan Arrival | Welcome to Italy! On your arrival at Milan Airport your private driver will welcome you to Italy. You will be transferred to your hotel in Stresa. The balance of this first day is at leisure. For International arrivals, we suggest an early dinner and a good night sleep. Overnight in Stresa.
Day 02: Stresa and Borromean Islands Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. This morning meet your guide at the hotel lobby. Your tour starts in Stresa and then continues on to The Borromean Islands. Stresa is an exclusive place with its beautiful lakeside setting, its grand hotels and villas, and the gorgeous mountains that surround Lake Maggiore. After a guided stroll in Stresa, you will enjoy a Private Boat Tour in the Borromeo Gulf for a visit to the beautiful Isola Bella (Beautiful Island). A tiny village, still preserving its original charm, will welcome us on the Island. Lunch in a characteristic local restaurant. Continue on to Isola Madre, which raises from the water with an enticing silhouette traced in the luxurious vegetation that covers the greatest part of it. Continue to Isola dei Pescatori. Its narrow cobbled streets, pretty harbor and charming houses make it an enchanting place to visit. Overnight in Stresa.
Day 03: Lake Maggiore Express | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your Guide at the hotel lobby. This morning take a few minutes walk to reach Stresa Train Station. The Lake Maggiore Express is a full day round trip by narrow gauge railway and ferry. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the valleys and towns surrounding Lake Maggiore. After taking the train from Stresa to Domodossola you board the narrow gauge Centovalli Railway that travels to Locarno in Switzerland through the Centovalli "hundred valleys" area. The little train winds its way up the Centovalli passing many traditional villages and old stone houses. From the train you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of chestnut woods, alpine pasture, mountains and waterfalls. The railway crosses 83 bridges and travels through 31 tunnels between Domodossola and Locarno. When you arrive in Locarno there is ample time to have lunch, explore the town centre or ride up the funicular to the Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary. The ferry leaves Locarno in the afternoon for a gentle cruise back down Lake Maggiore to Stresa. At you return in Stresa your Guide will escort back to your Hotel. Overnight in Stresa.
Day 04: Stresa - Lake Orta - Arona - Lake Como | After breakfast at the Hotel, meet your driver in the lobby. On route to your Hotel on Lake Como you will enjoy a Private Guided Tour of Lake Orta with a lovely afternoon Cheese and Wine Tasting in Arona. Accompanied by an expert guide you will discover the medieval lanes and the old palaces of Orta and the Island of St Julius. The small village hides elegant buildings and traditional houses that give the village of Orta its special appeal. A large religious community lives on the isle of St. Julius and contributes to the old-time atmosphere of the island where you will also find elegant villas with nice private gardens. After lunch in a characteristic local restaurant continue with your tour by visiting Arona area; the highlight is a visit to the cellars of cheese refiners, where Carlo, the fifth generation of a family completely devoted to cheese, selects and seasons artisan cheeses in his company grottoes, which you will visit. A guided tasting of a selection of the over 300 different kind of Italian artisan cheese coupled with local wines will end the visit. Late afternoon continue to your hotel. Overnight on Lake Como.
Day 05: Lake Como Private Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your Driver and Guide at the Hotel lobby. Your tour starts in Como historic city center, where you will visit its architectural wonders to include the Duomo, the Broletto, the Temple of Volta, and Terragni Palace. You can make an optional visit to the Educational Silk Museum, featuring machines, objects, documents, samples and instruments from Como’s textile industry, which earned the town its nickname “City of Silk.” Your private tour then takes you to Bellagio, one of the Italy’s most breathtaking towns. After lunch in a characteristic local restaurant, enjoy a guided walking tour in the historical center of Bellagio and its boroughs. From the lakefront we reach La Punta (the tip of the peninsula), where the three arms of the lake divide. After the visit of St. James church we will enjoy lovely views of Salita Serbelloni, Bellagio's most charming steps. Continue across the other side of the peninsula to the beautiful little borough of Pescallo, with vistas of the Lecco side of the lake. Walking by Villa Giulia you head back to the Como side of the lake, to see the little fishing harbour of Loppia, where time has stopped. Here is the entrance of Villa Melzi, the historical palazzo that gave hospitality to many famous guests in the past. After a guided walk through the gardens of Villa Melzi we make our way back to the center. Overnight on Lake Como.
Day 06: Lake Lugano Private Guided Tour | After breakfast at the Hotel, meet your driver in the lobby. Today you will venture just over the border in to Switzerland to discover Lugano and its Lake. A sophisticated city of high-end boutiques, chic bars late-night clubs and expensive restaurants, it is heavily involved in the Slow Food movement, Lugano has a leafy waterside promenade that extends the length of the city and provides breathtaking views across the sparkling lake to the mountains. Once in Lugano meet your Private Guide for a walking tour of the city’s pedestrian center that exudes charm and conviviality. As you weave your way through Lugano’s historic arcades lined with specialty purveyors of fine gourmet goods, you’ll be captivated by the city’s Mediterranean-style squares and refined avenues. Highlights of Lugano include fine frescoes in San Lorenzo cathedral and the largely medieval Historic Center; Piazza della Riforma lies at its heart and is a delightful jumble of architecture from Renaissance to Baroque. However, the standout attractions of the tour is the simple Romanesque church of Santa Maria degli Angeli; its interior is swathed in masterpiece frescoes of the Passion and Crucifixion by Renaissance master Bernardino Luini. Lunch in a characteristic local restaurant. Take a scenic ferry boat ride to one of the lake’s most picturesque villages, Gandria. Day 07: Lake Lucerne Private Guided Tour | After breakfast at the Hotel, meet your driver in the lobby. Today you will venture further in to Switzerland to discover Lucerne and its Lake. The drive will take about a 2 and Half hour drive to reach Lucerne. Upon arrival you will be greeted by your private guide and commence your private tour of Lucerne. Get acquainted with the history and culture of the Swiss city as your guide introduces you to this German-speaking part of Switzerland with entertaining facts. First, visit Chapel Bridge, the oldest surviving truss bridge in the world, and hear of how the structure became the city’s symbol. View the Water Tower that flanks the bridge and hear gruesome legends of the site that served as a dungeon during the Midldle Ages. Next, wander along serpentine streets and bustling town squares to catch a glimpse of local life. Delve into the religious heritage of the country at the ancient Jesuit Church and then visit the impressive concert hall at the Culture and Congress Centre. Lunch in a characteristic local restaurant. Scour the cityscape for remnants of the imposing Musegg Wall, a former medieval rampart used to guard the city from attack, and then inform your guide if there are any other sites you wish to see. Late afternoon return to your hotel on Lake Como.
Day 08: Milan Departure | Breakfast at the Hotel. Unfortunately it is time to say Arrivederci. At your convenience we will transfer you the airport. Ciao!
