The tour starts in Alba, then continues in the Langhe region, taking you to some of the award-winning wine tasting tours that are internationally recognized and featured in the press and media. After you explore and see Langhe with your own eyes, the tour continues in Liguria, where you will get to see the picturesque bay villages of Portofino and Cinque Terre, known as celebrity destinations in the summer.
Next up is a stop by Impruneta and Chianti an a private olive oil, cheese and wine tour in the region, followed by the pearls of the Italian wine tradition - Montalcino and Montepulciano. The combination of ancient villages will show you Italy's best kept food and wine secrets.
Day 01: Arrival in Milan Your glorious Italy wine tour will begin with your arrival at the airport in Milan. Once you disembark, making sure to pass through the passport processing area before collecting your luggage from customs. To make sure your wine tour begins on a luxury note, we’ll have a private driver meet you at the airport for a transfer to Langhe. After checking in at your hotel, you’ll enjoy the rest of your day at your leisure as you contemplate the days of delicious tours that await.
Day 02: Langhe Private Guided Tour: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before meeting up with your driver and guide in the lobby for the day’s tours. Expect an adventure-packed experience as your first stop will be a visit to Grinzane Cavour with its spectacular medieval manor hours. This beautiful estate overlooks the village below and serves as the site for a popular regional wine exhibition center. Your journey will continue onto Alba, which is known as the city “with 100 towers.” The capital of the important wine region of Langhe, Alba is world-renowned for its wines and sensational white truffles. You’ll enjoy free time for lunch before departing in the afternoon for Barolo. Here you’ll visit the Marchesi de Barolo wine cellar and enjoy a wine tasting. The Marchesi di Barolo has received numerous accolades for the fine wines it produces and is a common feature in the news. The day’s tour will cap off with a stop in the La Morra area, which offers a stunning view of the 11 villages that are famed for producing Barolo wine. After taking in the scenery, you’ll return to your hotel for dinner on your own and an overnight stay in Langhe.
Day 03: Lanhe at Leisure or *Optional Tour: Langhe Truffle Hunt: This day’s tours are intended to be adventurous, so be sure to enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel. After finishing your meal, you’ll meet up with a traditional truffle hunter and his dog in an easily accessible wooded area. This is the best way for you to enjoy this mysterious fungus that is also a culinary sensation featured in many food dishes created in this region. While out with the truffle hunter, you’ll learn the secrets of finding this delight, how the dog helps and is trained to do so and more. The experience is a simulation, so you won’t be able to bring the truffles he will find back with you. The secrets he shares, however, are yours to keep. After the thrill of the hunt, you’ll stop for lunch at a restaurant that will serve up foods based on the region’s two most important ingredients: wine and truffles. During the second half of your day, you’ll travel to the 13th century village of Cherasco. Given its ancient roots, this village is unlike any other found in the region. This stop also gives you a chance to tour an ancient winery before returning to the hotel and an evening at your leisure.
Day 04: Langhe, Tigullio Gulf, Santa Margherita Ligure | Take in breakfast at the hotel before meeting up with your driver in the lobby to embark on a private transfer to Santa Margherita Ligure. The day’s tours will include visits to Sestri Levante, Chiavari, Rapallo and Portofino on the way to Santa Margherita Ligure. Little Portofino is a tiny town of only 500 permanent residents, give or take, but it is famed as being one of the most popular resort areas on the entire Italian Riviera. Here your tour will go beyond food and wine to also include boutiques and art galleries that line the town’s quaint streets. You’ll also find delightful restaurants and cafes at your disposal and historic stops like the Castello Brown and Church of St. Martin. After taking in the sights, you’ll overnight in Santa Margherita Ligure.
Day 05: Cinque Terre. Today will include the five seaside villages of Cinque Terre, so be sure to enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel. Cinque Terre is considered one of the most beautiful areas in the entire Mediterranean. Today’s tours will include a combination of easy walks, village stops, short boat rides and even a train ride. A return transfer from Santa Margherita Ligure is included as are plenty of opportunities to take in the wines and food that make Cinque Terre a culinary sensation. You’ll overnight in Santa Margherita Ligure.
Day 06: Santa Margherita Ligure at Leisure. Today spend the day at leisure walking around this beautiful seaside resort. Overnight in Santa Margherita Ligure.
Day 07: Cinque Terre, San Gimignano, Siena, Chianti Breakfast at the hotel before meeting up with the driver for a private tour of the Tuscan countryside on the way to your own Castle Hotel in this legendary region. The day’s first stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site of San Gimignano. This medieval town is guaranteed to leave visitors breathless. After touring San Gimignano, enjoy a lunch and wine tasting before heading off to Siena for a private guided tour of this most lovely of medieval cities. The heart of Siena is found in Campo’s Square where the famous Il Palio horse race is staged twice each summer. After enjoying Siena’s beauty, you’ll transfer to Chianti where your Castle Hotel awaits.
Day 08: Oil, Cheeses and Wines of Impruneta and Chianti Set the stage for a delightful culinary experience by enjoying breakfast at the hotel before setting off on a private tour across the Tuscan countryside. The luxury journey begins in the very heart of Tuscan’s oil country – the hills of Impruneta. Stops include the Torrerossa oil farm where olives are still hand collected and ladders are used to ensure the delicate fruits are not damaged during harvesting. Tours here also give guests a chance to see a traditional oil press and the massive terracotta jars that are made in Impruneta to hold this precious oil. The next stop is the Corzano e Paterno winery and cheese farm where you’ll get to see how traditional methods for cheese production are still used to craft this product from the farm’s own sheep. Samples of the farm’s excellent wines will also be provided. You’ll overnight in Chianti.
Day 09: Chianti at Leisure or *Optional Tour: Montalcino and Montepulciano Wine Tour | Today’s tours will put the spotlight on some of the most famous wine varieties in all of Italy. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before taking off to experience the flavors of Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Your private guide will fetch you from the hotel for the first stop in Montalcino. This ancient village is renowned for its Brunello di Montalcino red wine that is made from the Sangiovese Grosso grape. You’ll also get to enjoy a private audience with a Brunello producer at the Poggio Antico Estate. A quick stop at the Abbazia di Sant’Antimo ruins from the 9th century is included on the way to the winery. Once at the winery, tours include the cellars, vineyards and a chance to sample the flavors. Lunch will be served in the winery’s own restaurant after which the tour will move on to Montepulciano. This small village has Etruscan roots and is vastly considered one of the most beautiful hill towns in the whole of Tuscany. The Nobile wines of Montepulciano will be explored during a visit to a top estate, such as Avignonesi or Valdipiatta. A return transfer to the hotel is on the agenda for the late afternoon.
Day 10: Siena, Florence Airport After breakfast at the hotel, your food and wine tour of Italy will end with a private transfer from Siena to the Florence airport.
