Tour Description

There is a city in Italy named Alba. Known as 'The City With 100 Towers', situated in the Langhe region, close to Milan. Aside from the towers, our tour to this city will let you see what's so special about the culinary tradition in Alba and why many tourists come every year for its wines and prestigious white truffles.

The tour starts in Alba, then continues in the Langhe region, taking you to some of the award-winning wine tasting tours that are internationally recognized and featured in the press and media. After you explore and see Langhe with your own eyes, the tour continues in Liguria, where you will get to see the picturesque bay villages of Portofino and Cinque Terre, known as celebrity destinations in the summer.

Next up is a stop by Impruneta and Chianti an a private olive oil, cheese and wine tour in the region, followed by the pearls of the Italian wine tradition - Montalcino and Montepulciano. The combination of ancient villages will show you Italy's best kept food and wine secrets.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Milan Arrival | Welcome to Italy! Upon arrival at Milan airport please proceed to collect your luggage inside the customs area. Meet your driver and transfer to Langhe. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Langhe.

Day 02: Langhe Full Day Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your driver and guide in the lobby for a wonderful visit to GRINZANE CAVOUR with its medieval manor house, imposing and haughty, which from its peak looks over the village lying below and guards a well-known Regional Wine Exhibition Center. Then continue to ALBA, also known as the "city with one hundred towers", the capital of the Langhe region, worldwide known for its wines and its prestigious white truffles. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon depart to Barolo and visit of The Marchesi di Barolo wine cellar, with wine tasting. Marchesi di Barolo was and is a winery that has received numerous awards for its wines and has been frequently recognized in the press and media. We will end the visit of this beautiful area by visiting La Morra, with its enchanting panoramic view on the 11 villages producing Barolo wine. Return to your Hotel. Overnight in Langhe.

Day 03: Langhe Full Day Guided Tour | Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet the truffle hunter and his inseparable dog in an easily accessible wood: this is the best way to discover this mysterious fungus, seeing with your eyes the art of finding truffles. He will explain all secrets behind, including where it grows, how the dog is trained and much more. Remember: this is a simulation so you are not going to keep truffles he will find! Stop for lunch at a characteristic restaurant. The lunch will be based on truffle and wines. In the second part of our day you will visit the charming village of Cherasco, founded in the thirteenth century on a plain, unlike other towns and villages of the Langhe. One of the most intriguing moment of the day will be the visit of an ancient winery. Return to your Hotel in Langhe, rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 04: Langhe - Tigullio Gulf - Santa Margherita Ligure | After breakfast at the Hotel, meet your driver in the lobby for a Private Transfer to Santa Margherita Ligure. Visit Sestri Levante, Chiavari, Rapallo and Portofino on Route. One of the most popular resort towns on the Italian Riviera, little Portofino has just over 500 permanent residents. But that all changes on summer days when the sun is shining and the yachting set drops anchor in the harbour to wander about. Boutiques, art galleries, cafes and restaurants line the tiny streets. Diving, hiking and beach-going are popular local pastimes, and there are even some historic sights like the Church of St. Martin (Divo Martino) and the Castello Brown hilltop fortress. Overnight in Santa Margherita Ligure.

Day 05: Cinque Terre | Breakfast a the Hotel. Today enjoy a Private Guided Tour of The Cinque Terre (5 Lands), some of the Mediterranean's most picturesque seaside villages. With a combination of easy walks, village visits, train rides and a short boat trip between the atmospheric villages, makes this the ideal visit to the idyllic Cinque Terre. The Tour includes return private transfer from Santa Margherita Ligure and expert private tour guide to share great stories about each charming village, as well as information on famous Cinque Terre gourmet foods and wines. Overnight in Santa Margherita Ligure.

Day 06: Cinque Terre - San Gimignano - Siena - Chianti | After breakfast at the hotel, meet the driver in the lobby for a Private Tour of the Tuscany countryside, on route to your Castel Hotel in Tuscany. First visit San Gimignano, a splendid example of medieval town declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. San Gimignano will leave you astonished by its beauty. Enjoy a light lunch and a wine tasting before continuing to Siena to meet your Guide for a private tour of Italy's loveliest medieval city. Siena's heart is Il Campo or Campo's square, where the famous horse race Il Palio, that takes place two times each summer. The town offer magnificent masterpieces and incredible views. In the afternoon transfer to your Hotel. Overnight at your Castle Hotel in Chianti.

Day 07: Oil cheese and wine in Impruneta and Chianti. | After breakfast at the hotel, meet the driver in the lobby for a Private Tour of the Tuscany countryside, on route to your Hotel in Tuscany. This excursion begins in the heart of the Tuscan oil kingdom - the hills around Impruneta, were we'll visit the Torrerossa oil farm. Here the olives are still collected by hand with the help of wood ladders leaning against the olive branches. Torrerossa still owns an old oil press, the oil is stored in antique enormous terracotta jars manufactured in Impruneta. On S.Casciano hills, in the Chianti DOCG production area, we found the Corzano e Paterno winery and cheese farm, specialized in the production of cheeses with traditional methods, using the milk from the farm's sheep. You will also taste their excellent wines. Late afternoon continue to your hotel in the Tuscan Countryside. In the afternoon transfer to your Hotel. Overnight at your Hotel in Chianti.

Day 08: Montalcino and Montepulciano | Breakfast at the Hotel. Today, you will taste some of the most famous Italian wines: Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Your private driver-guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive you first to Montalcino. This ancient village is best known for its red Brunello di Montalcino wines, made with Sangiovese Grosso grapes . You will have a private visit to a Brunello producer such as the prestigious Poggio Antico Estate. On the way to the winery, you can stop for a quick visit of the stunning ruins of the 9th century Abbazia di Sant'Antimo. At the winery you will tour the cellars, the vineyards and take in the gorgeous views and taste Brunello "Riserva" and also Rosso di Montalcino. Lunch will be in the winery's restaurant. After the lunch, carry on to Montepulciano, a small village of Etruscan origin and one of the most beautiful hill towns in Tuscany. The Nobile wines of Montepulciano, were the first to be given the ultimate quality level of DOCG certification. You'll visit a top estate such as Valdipiatta or Avignonesi and enjoy a tasting of Vino Nobile. In the late afternoon, enjoy free time on your own and transfer back to your Hotel.

Day 09: Siena - Florence Airport | After breakfast at the hotel enjoy a Private Transfer from Siena to Florence Airport.

  • We have just returned from our trip to Italy since we took a cruise after the program you and I put together. I just wanted to let you know that everything you planned worked out perfectly. Both hotels were excellent and the rooms were fine. All the drivers were on time and got us to our destinations promptly. We were especially glad to have someone meet us at the train station with the tickets in hand and directions to our car in Milan. The best part of the trip was the all day private boat trip in Bellagio with the great restaurant on the private island. So thanks for your help and hopefully we can do it again.
